Compassion, kindness, goodness, empathy and the ability to be a good person; these are some of the most powerful tools you, as a human, can possess and they can never be taken from you.

Others may affect how you express them but, again, they can never be taken.

Please remember; even if you are presented with negativity your spiritual toolbox of gifts is available and ready for use at any time.

How Meditation Benefits Your Mind and Body

How Meditation Benefits Your Mind and Body

By Healthline

Posted on May 8, 2025

While meditation is well known as a technique to reduce stress and anxiety, it may also help enhance your mood, promote healthy sleep patterns, and boost cognitive skills.

Meditation is the habitual process of training your mind to focus and redirect your thoughts.

The popularity of meditation is increasing as more people discover its many health benefits.

You can use it to increase awareness of yourself and your surroundings. Many think of it as a way to reduce stress and develop concentration.

People also use the practice to develop other beneficial habits and feelings, such as a positive mood and outlook, self-discipline, healthy sleep patterns, and even increased pain tolerance.

This article reviews 12 health benefits of meditation.

1. Reduces stress

Stress reduction is one of the most common reasons people try meditation.

Over time, physiological markers of stress, like increased cortisol and heart rate, can have wide-ranging impacts on everything from sleep to blood pressure.

2017 reviewTrusted Source of 45 studies suggests various forms of mediation can help to decrease physiological markers of stress.

Other research suggests that meditation may also improve symptoms of certain conditions that are impacted by stress, including:

2. Controls anxiety

Meditation can reduce stress levels, which translates to less anxiety.

An older 2014 meta-analysisTrusted Source including nearly 1,300 adults found that meditation may decrease anxiety. Notably, this effect was strongest in those with the highest levels of anxiety.

Another studyTrusted Source found that 8 weeks of mindfulness meditation helped reduce anxiety symptoms in people with generalized anxiety disorder, along with increasing positive self-statements and improving stress reactivity and coping.

Meditation may also help control job-related anxiety. One studyTrusted Source found that employees who used a mindfulness meditation app for 8 weeks experienced improved feelings of well-being and decreased distress and job strain, compared with those in a control group.

3. Supports emotional health

Some forms of meditation can lead to improved self-image and a more positive outlook on life.

For example, one reviewTrusted Source of treatments given to more than 3,500 adults found that mindfulness meditation improved symptoms of depression.

2015 studyTrusted Source found that people who completed a meditation exercise experienced fewer negative thoughts in response to viewing negative images than those in a control group).

4. Enhances self-awareness

Some forms of meditation may help you develop a stronger understanding of yourself, helping you grow into your best self.

For example, self-inquiry meditation aims to help you develop a greater understanding of yourself and how you relate to those around you.

Other forms teach you to recognize harmful or self-defeating thoughts. The idea is that as you gain greater awareness of your thought habits, you can steer them toward more constructive patterns.

In a 2019 studyTrusted Source, 153 adults who used a mindfulness meditation app for 2 weeks experienced reduced feelings of loneliness and increased social contact compared with those in a control group.

5. Lengthens attention span

Focused attention meditation is like weightlifting for your attention span. It helps increase your attention span’s strength and endurance.

For example, one studyTrusted Source found that people who listened to a meditation tape experienced improved attention and accuracy while completing a task, compared with those in a control group.

different studyTrusted Source found that people who regularly practiced meditation performed better on a visual task and had a greater attention span than those without any meditation experience.

Even meditating for a short period each day may benefit you. One studyTrusted Source found that meditating for just 13 minutes daily enhanced attention and memory after 8 weeks.

6. May reduce age-related memory loss

Improvements in attention and clarity of thinking may help keep your mind young.

Kirtan Kriya is a method of meditation that combines a mantra or chant with repetitive finger motions to focus your thoughts. Older studiesTrusted Source in people with age-related memory loss have shown it improves performance on neuropsychological tests.

An older 2014 reviewTrusted Source found preliminary evidence that multiple meditation styles can increase attention, memory, and mental quickness in older volunteers.

7. Can generate kindness

Some types of meditation may particularly increase positive feelings and actions toward yourself and others.

Metta meditation, a type of meditation also known as loving-kindness meditation, begins with developing kind thoughts and feelings toward yourself.

Through practice, people learn to extend this kindness and forgiveness externally, first to friends, then acquaintances, and ultimately enemies.

meta-analysisTrusted Source of 22 studies on this form of meditation demonstrated its ability to increase peoples’ compassion toward themselves and others.

These benefits appear to accumulateTrusted Source over time with the practice of loving-kindness meditation.

8. May help with addiction

The mental discipline you can develop through meditation may helpTrusted Source you break dependencies by increasing your self-control and awareness of triggers for addictive behaviors.

2018 studyTrusted Source involving 60 people receiving treatment for alcohol use disorder linked practicing transcendental meditation with lower levels of stress, psychological distress, alcohol cravings, and alcohol use after 3 months.

Meditation may also help you control food cravings. An older reviewTrusted Source of 14 studies found that mindfulness meditation helped participants reduce emotional stress and binge eating.

9. Improves sleep

An older 2014 study compared mindfulness-based meditation programs and found that people who meditated stayed asleep longer and had improved insomnia severity, compared with those who had an unmedicated control condition.

Becoming skilled in meditation may help you control or redirect the racing or runaway thoughts that often lead to insomnia.

Additionally, it can help relax your body, release tension, and ease you into a peaceful state in which you’re more likely to fall asleep.

10. Helps control pain

Some research suggests that incorporating meditation into your routine could be beneficial for controlling pain.

For example, a 2017 reviewTrusted Source of 38 studies concluded that mindfulness meditation could reduce pain, improve quality of life, and decrease symptoms of depression in people with chronic pain.

A large 2014 meta-analysisTrusted Source of studies enrolling nearly 3,500 participants linked meditation with decreased pain.

11. Can decrease blood pressure

Meditation can also improve physical health by reducing strain on the heart.

Over time, high blood pressure makes the heart work harder to pump blood, leading to poor heart function.

High blood pressure also contributes to atherosclerosis, or a narrowing of the arteries, which can lead to heart attack and stroke.

2015 meta-analysisTrusted Source of 12 studies enrolling nearly 1,000 participants found that meditation helped reduce blood pressure. This was more effective among older participants and those with higher blood pressure before the study (42Trusted Source).

In part, meditation appearsTrusted Source to control blood pressure by relaxing the nerve signals that coordinate heart function, blood vessel tension, and the “fight-or-flight” response that increases alertness in stressful situations.

12. Accessible anywhere

People practice many different forms of meditation, most of which don’t require specialized equipment or space. You can practice with just a few minutes daily.

If you want to start meditating, try choosing a form of meditation based on what you want to get out of it.

There are two major styles of meditation:

  • Focused-attention meditation. This style concentrates attention on a single object, thought, sound, or visualization. It emphasizes ridding your mind of distractions. Meditation may focus on breathing, a mantra, or a calming sound.
  • Open-monitoring meditation. This style encourages broadened awareness of all aspects of your environment, train of thought, and sense of self. It may include becoming aware of suppressed thoughts, feelings, or impulses.

If your regular work and home environments do not allow for consistent, quiet alone time, consider participating in a class. This can also improve your chances of success by providing a supportive community.

Alternatively, consider setting your alarm a few minutes early to take advantage of quiet time in the morning. This may help you develop a consistent habit and allow you to start the day positively.

The bottom line

Meditation is something everyone can do to improve their mental and emotional health without special equipment or costly memberships.

Trying out a style of meditation suited to your goals is a great way to improve your quality of life, even if you only have a few minutes to do it daily.

Indigos Leadership

Indigos Leadership

Greetings Dear Ones, I am Kryon of Magnetic Service.

How are you doing with all of that light that was just given to you? I want to tell you a story. It’s a story actually about some of you. We’d like to rewind the clock to 1999. There was a woman named Nancy Tappe. She had a very unusual gift. She could see colors around certain individual personality types. This gift was documented and the doctors said she had something called synesthesia, a strange wiring of the brain that allowed these kinds of things.

So she started giving seminars. She could see the colors of the various personality types in the audience. She could help those who were trying to get together with partners for the best colors to join with. It also had some spiritual bonding as well. And then suddenly she saw another color. She saw a color that had not existed before in her work, and she saw it around children. No adults. So she realized a new color was coming in; a new kind of human was being born.

She did this up to ten years before 1999, but in 1999 my partner discovered her. And this is when I told him “Do a book and show what is happening – a new human is coming.” The book was called The Indigo Children. Many people related to this, saw it instantly. This was like their kids. The children were not smarter, but they were wiser. They knew what to do before being told what was wise or not wise. And because of that, they reacted poorly to those who were trying to tell them what to do.

Many of them were hyperactive as well. Many of them were frustrated at dysfunctional systems. These wise young children saw the dysfunction of the public school system. It was frustrating to be in a place where they were told to do something that made no sense. And so there was rebellion among them. There were those who decided not to participate at all. So the medical system of the day decided that these children were broken. Most of them received a kind of drug that would create a little more peace in the family. The initials ADD and ADHD were then born. You hadn’t heard of these before the indigo children.

I channeled about them back then and told my partner they were important. That there was a reason back then that they were being born, so then when they reached adults they would start to be able to do wise things. One of them is to change the school system. Suddenly the children were the principals and the teachers, and then they could start making changes to the system from the inside. But mainly, Dear Ones, it’s the wisdom factor that we wanted. The indigos recognize the wisdom of kindness and compassion.

They cannot be trained in dysfunctional things that you were; systems that told them things were a certain way. The indigos would say, “No, I don’t think they are.” Spiritual common sense started with them, and many of them right now are starting to run for office in politics. You might say they are “seed children,” and they are now adults, some of them adults in their 40s and 50s. These would be the early indigos.

Today many indigos are being born just naturally from indigos. It truly is an altered kind of human. Listen to me. You look around the room and you might see the average age of those who are interested in attending a conference like this. What if I told you that many young people are starting to be interested in these very things?

There is something called social media where anyone can get a microphone and a camera and say what they say, and people are either interested or they’re not. One of the phenomena in my partner’s country is very interesting. Young people are starting to have podcasts where they invite others to listen to them, and the subjects they are discussing are exactly the ones in this conference yesterday and today. And many of them are in their 20s and 30s, and most of them are indigos. This is the way of it for the future. And it was seen in 1999 and published. This is part of a light that is starting to show up on this planet.

Let me ask you a question. In the past you’ve seen your leadership come and it always seems to be the same. The template is the template, and whether they are from another place, they all do kind of the same thing, but the indigos, they have another template. Watch for them. You will see them with the compassion they have, with the new ideas and common sense they have. That is part of the future that I’m talking about.

They are all over the world, Dear Ones. This is going to create more of a fast track to the improvements that you’re seeing and wanting to see. The indigos will play a major part in what is coming. That means they’re everywhere. They’re not just lightworkers. Many don’t want anything to do with esoterics. It won’t matter because built into their DNA is compassion and wisdom and kindness. It will change the way corporations operate, the way politics will operate, and voters will see it right away.

Can you imagine a candidate to vote for who never says a bad word about their opposition? Who might even honestly make a statement that their opposition is quite good, that they have good ideas too, but of course they’ll say, “I have a better one.” Gone is the day where there will be fights between oppositions in politics. A new paradigm is coming for many things because of this. It’s the next step.

An indigo leader will never create a war. They are far wiser than that. Instead, they’ll want to create trade. It helps their country and the other one far more than conquering. You see, Dear Ones, that is called wisdom. You will see elements of mastery start to begin, and these are the new humans that are coming.

There are so many areas where you are going to see change, even including the church. You would think the church will never embrace anything but the doctrine that they teach. However, what is it that the church clings to the most? A beautiful, compassionate master. And when the indigos start to be the priests or the nuns, they will be drawn to the love of God and that compassion and kindness of the master. And that’s what will change the church from the inside so it is no longer stale. It may come alive with a new idea – a non-punishing God who loves you.

There are many things you do not expect on the way. And some things instead of going away will actually then change instead. Are you ready for this? Let me tell you what Guillermo says. “It must come from the inside of you.” If you’re afraid of the doom of the planet, you are blocking the good things that are before you. Fear blocks light.

Are you afraid? What are you blocking? Do you think some other things might be possible for you to do? Four years ago we started another kind of meditation because right now the veil is thinning. More of soul energy is starting to be part of you. Soul energy is compassion of the masters. Those masters who walked the earth were so transparent with the veil. It’s almost like pieces of the divine were walking around as masters. That’s what happens when the veil starts to thin out.

Part of what you will receive that is different is soul energy that is sacred. It’s delivered right to the 24th pair of chromosomes in your DNA, and part of what makes you the new human. So this particular meditation takes advantage of that. How would you like to take a trip to your soul? This entire meditation has a name. It’s called the Circle of Twelve. Twelve represents the structure of the universe, not twelve masters. The circle represents the now of eternity. That is at the core of your soul. We’d like to begin that now and we’ll start again with Monika.

As you move through your day, it is best to err on the side of kindness and compassion. Yes, there are those out there that may very well push your buttons and make you angry, however, before you react, please stop and think.

Are they saying something they truly mean? Do their actions offend you simply because they are another breathing being or is it a reflection of something you dislike in yourself. Does their attitude make you uncomfortable or it is just the energy of the day?

Please remember; everyone has a history, has a past that you may never understand. Instead of reacting to a situation, action or thought, give them the benefit of the doubt, step back and realize that you may never know who they are and what they’ve been through.

Today, be the person you wish to encounter.

Practicing self-care, treating yourself (and those around you) with kindness and compassion will be the gentlest way to move through this. You have been given the tools, skills and wisdom, as well as the experience of doing this many times before.
