Natural Remedies for Everyday Illnesses

Natural Remedies for Everyday Illnesses

By Nancy Van Sloun

Post on 2026/09/06

I wish that being a doctor meant that my family and I would never get sick. Unfortunately, viruses, bacteria and other sources of illness do not discriminate based on profession. Here’s what’s in my toolkit to keep us going in sickness and in health.

Natural remedies for cough and sore throat

  • Tea – teas with ingredients like licorice and slippery elm have throat-coating properties that help reduce irritation.
  • Honey – its throat-coating properties can soothe sore throats and suppress coughs. Have some on a spoon or stir it into tea.
  • Echinacea* – can reduce the duration of cold symptoms, particularly if used during the first day or two. It is available as tea, drops or pills.
  • Elderberry syrup* – has antiviral properties, making it helpful for colds and influenza. Follow dosing on the package.
  • Pelargonium* – a plant used in some natural cold/cough remedies. It shortens the duration and severity of colds.

*Try each of these individually and see which you like best; don’t use all three together.

Digestive home remedies

  • Ginger – helpful for upset stomach, nausea and motion sickness.  Available as a tea (look for medicinal brands), or try candied ginger when you’re on the go.
  • Probiotics – live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your digestive system. Probiotics can help with diarrhea caused by infections or related to antibiotic use. Available as supplements and in foods like yogurt, miso paste, kombucha, kimchi and raw sauerkraut.

Topical products for soreness and skin irritation

  • Arnica cream – sooths muscle aches, pains and bruising.
  • Tea tree oil – an anti-inflammatory agent for bacterial or fungus infections. Use it for spot treatment of acne and for athlete’s foot.
  • Calendula – soothes skin irritations like eczema and diaper rash.

Natural remedies for sleep

  • Tea – try chamomile tea in the evening as you are winding down.
  • Lavender – an aromatherapy oil used for calming and relaxation. Safe for both young children and older adults.

Natural remedies for anxiety

  • Set aside five minutes before starting your day for slow, deep breathing. Think about the day ahead, what you are grateful for and the people in your life
  • On the way to school, teach your kids to use breathing exercises to help them prepare for the day ahead. Slow down breathing by inhaling for four seconds and exhaling for six seconds. This activates the part of the nervous system that calms us.
  • Choose calming music to listen to on your way to and from work or school.
  • Spend a few minutes after work to prepare for the transition home. Put to rest the unresolved issues at work and shift your focus to your family.

Healthy Gut = Happy Mind? The Gut’s Role In Anxiety & Stress

Healthy Gut = Happy Mind? The Gut’s Role In Anxiety & Stress

By Ava Durgin

Post on October 26, 2025

Anxiety is on the rise, affecting nearly 60 million adults in the U.S. and close to a billion people worldwide. While medications and therapy remain the primary treatments, an unexpected player in mental health is emerging: gut bacteria.

A study published in EMBO Molecular Medicine suggests that these microscopic organisms may have a direct impact on brain function—specifically, anxiety levels—by regulating neuronal activity in a key fear-processing region of the brain.

The experiment: How gut bacteria influence anxiety

Researchers from Duke-NUS Medical School and the National Neuroscience Institute of Singapore conducted a preclinical study in mice to explore the gut-brain connection. They divided the mice into two groups:

  • Normal mice: These mice had a typical gut microbiome.
  • Germ-free mice: Raised in completely sterile conditions, these mice had no gut bacteria.

The results were striking: The germ-free mice displayed significantly more anxious behaviors than their normal counterparts.

When placed in an open-field test—a large box with both enclosed and open areas—the germ-free mice preferred hiding along the edges instead of exploring. In an elevated zero maze test, they spent less time in open sections, further confirming their heightened anxiety.

But behavior was just the beginning. The researchers examined the mice’s brains and found that the basolateral amygdala—a region responsible for processing fear and anxiety—was hyperactive in germ-free mice.

Their brain cells were firing excessively due to impaired SK2 channels, which normally act as brakes on neuronal excitability.

The key to a calmer brain

To see if gut bacteria could restore balance, the researchers introduced indole, a compound naturally produced by gut microbes, into the germ-free mice’s diet.

Remarkably, this simple addition reversed the brain hyperactivity and reduced their anxiety-related behaviors. The treated mice became more exploratory and exhibited activity patterns similar to normal mice.

This suggests that gut bacteria play an essential role in regulating anxiety by producing biochemical signals that influence brain function. In other words, gut microbes may act as natural mood stabilizers.

A potential breakthrough in mental health

This study offers strong evidence that the gut microbiome is directly linked to anxiety-related behaviors.

While it’s still early-stage research (and in this case, done on animals), the findings open the door to potential new treatments for anxiety disorders in humans—ones that don’t rely solely on traditional medications but instead target gut health.

Dietary interventions for more support

While gut dysbiosis may contribute to mental health challenges, certain foods can help restore microbial balance and support brain function. Here’s what the research says about different dietary components:

Probiotics (live beneficial bacteria):

Certain probiotics—especially Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains—may help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.

For example, postpartum women who took Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001 had fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression1, while another study found that L. rhamnosus Probio-M9 improved stress resilience2.

Prebiotics (food for gut bacteria):

Prebiotics, such as dietary fiber and galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS), can promote the growth of beneficial bacteria.

A study found that GOS supplementation helped reduce anxiety symptoms3 in healthy females by increasing Bifidobacterium levels.

Synbiotics (probiotics + prebiotics):

Combining probiotics and prebiotics may offer even greater benefits.

One study found that a four-week synbiotic supplement increased levels of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium while improving mental health markers.

Fermented dairy products:

Yogurt, kefir, and other fermented dairy products naturally contain probiotics.

One study found that a fermented dairy drink with Lacticaseibacillus paracasei improved gut bacteria balance and reduced depressive symptoms4, especially in people with digestive issues.

Spices with mental health benefits:

Certain spices contain bioactive compounds that may positively impact the gut-brain axis.

Fruits & vegetables:

A study of over 5,800 Australian adults6 found that higher fruit and vegetable intake was associated with better mental health. Another study suggested that fiber-rich produce helped reduce inattention in children with ADHD7 by supporting a healthy gut microbiome.

The takeaway

Your gut microbiome isn’t just about digestion—it plays a powerful role in brain function and mental health. Research shows that gut dysbiosis is linked to anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder, but dietary choices can help rebalance the microbiome.

By incorporating probiotics, prebiotics, fermented foods, and anti-inflammatory spices into your diet, you may support both gut and brain health naturally.

While we still have much to learn about the gut-brain axis, one thing is clear: What you eat doesn’t affect just your body—it shapes your mind too.

Higher Electrical Energy

Higher Electrical Energy

By Dr Schavi M Ali

Posted on April 29, 2025

Uranus is a planet of extremely powerful electrification, and its energetics are highly charging into Earth’s atmosphere and into human beings.

Both the Earth’s nervous system and the human nervous system is highly charged, and this has been occurring over a long period of time.

The human levels of consciousness or mindsets is an “electrical system” (due to brain neurons) while human emotions are “magnetic”.

So, the “electrification” of thoughts attract certain feelings, and both thoughts and feelings can produce physical reactions.

With our planet being more electrified now, and with this being also the case with the human nervous system, this “magnifies” anxiety, sensations of trembling, heat surges, muscle pain, and also little electrical zaps are increasingly happening.

With Uranus currently being in the sign of Tropical Taurus — an earth element sign — and with Uranus being in Sidereal Aries — a fire element sign, electrification of planet Earth and of the creation upon “Her” is dramatic.

As has been mentioned in earlier teachings, all planets in our solar system affect each other as solar energetics coming from the “Photon Belt” and other cosmic dynamics act as catalysts.

The electrification increase is encased in the principle of “electromagnetics” which is also another way of discussing radiation or penetrating particles of electrons, photons, neutrons, and more.

Many are familiar with the letters “EMF” which indicates “Electromagnetic Frequencies”, and these are very prevalent in modern-day technology — including scientific organizations, industrial companies, schools, medical offices, and home devices. Technology — regardless of its sophistication — cannot register the totality of the power of cosmic events. As has also been expressed previously, such technology can only offer a general idea of daily cosmic strength.

With this being the case, and with people engaging air flight in huge numbers during holidays, summer vacations, university spring breaks, for business meetings, study tours to foreign lands, or for just visiting family and friends, caution is advised because airplane technological devices and the technological systems used by the ground crew to communicate with the air traffic has faltered on numerous occasions recently, and when a plane is in trouble or there has been a tragedy, the so-called “black boxes” cannot give the complete report of what happened.

In essence, even though any form of travel can have problems, air travel has become more problematic than is being admitted, and it is the most kind of travel to be cautious about at this time because of the “pull” and “vibration” of the electrification of Uranus.

Most people either have only a small modicum of knowledge about “COSMIC SCIENCE” or have none at all, and either group can unwisely negate the powers that exist throughout our solar system, and only what directly occurs on Earth is focused upon without understanding that what happens above and beyond Earth’s domain is important to the Earth and its inhabitants.

For those who engage in air travel either regularly (for business, for example) or for special necessary occasions, there are spiritual steps that can be taken to insure a safe journey.

However, in order to deal with the following suggestions, a person must be open-minded and spiritually-oriented rather than being solely locked into left brain logic like the character “Mr. Spock” on old “Star Trek” television episodes.

Both left brain and right brain energies are necessary for they are aspects of basic information and creative ideas, of male and female responses, of nervous system activity, and together provide the encasement of the “God Particle” — the Pineal Gland — and the impulses of the Pineal Gland are rooted in the “Shushumna” (Sanskrit language) which arises from the base of the spinal column and travels thus upwards.

There are those individuals who would say: “Just tell me how to be safe while traveling on a plane. I don’t care about all of the scientific stuff!” However, no true teaching is occurring when vital background information is missing, and there are those persons who appreciate being adequately informed.

Further, one of the Divine principles of SOURCE as given by Sri Bhagavan Krishna in the BHAGAVAD GITA is the following: “THOSE WHO TEACH TRUTH HAVE WORSHIPED ME”. So, certain kinds of teaching is considered worship.

Safety Tips While Flying

1. To avoid so much harmful radiation from entering your auric field and subsequently your cellular structure both while being tested at the airport for banned items, and while on a plane, wear a necklace, a prayer mala, rings, and bracelets of either AMBER, AMAZONITE, BLACK TOURMALINE, HEMATITE, PYRITE, SHUNGITE, or TURQUOISE. Two of any of these types of stones would be ideal. Each of these also calms the nervous system.

2. Carry a spiritual symbol such as an ANKH, an AUM, a KEM SEB (“Star of David”), an EYE OF HERU (called “Horus” in Greek”), etc. Tibetans have always taught that wearing what are known as “DZI BEADS” are very protective. These are made of natural Agate and contain geometrical symbols. Study about these and consider obtaining one of these. There is a story about a man many years ago who was traveling on a plane wearing a “DZI BEAD” on a chain, and tragically, the plane had difficulty and crashed landed. Everyone was injured either critically or mildly, but the man wearing the “DZI BEAD” was completely unscathed. Skeptics can make of this story what they like. I am merely reporting it. However, Tibetans consider “DZI BEADS” sacred objects not just artful Agate stones.

3. Write-out a protective prayer based upon your particular path in your own handwriting. Do not type it! Handwriting carries a specific vibrational frequency It is like having a “spiritual fingerprint”. For example, Christians can write-out “Psalm 121”. Muslims can write-out the “Al Fatiha”. Kabbalists can write-out the “Ana Beko’Ache”. Sanatana Dharmis (mistakenly called “Hindus”) can write-out the “Durga” mantra. Every path — of which there are thousands on our Earth — has prayers for health and safety. The ones mentioned are merely examples.

4. Do not eat or drink anything with caffeine before or during your flight. This will stir-up your already delicate nervous system, and while in flight, it has been shown that all people have somewhat elevated blood pressure levels (especially in these times) and nervous systems are charged-up. If you need to keep your energy up without the jitteriness of caffeine, take Nettles tea bags with you, and ask the Flight Attendants for hot water to place them in.

5. Before your flight, take a shower or bath, and rub down with essential oil of Frankincense. Place a few drops in a body lotion or cream if your skin is sensitive to essential oils which can be quite strong if applied directly on the skin. This is ancient protection, is calming, and strengthens the immune system (as do many other essential oils).

Try to never be in fear. Sometimes certain types of information can cause this. However, we cannot always avoid facts that can be troubling. It is better to know than to not know, and those who have been blessed by SOURCE should share knowledge — not hide it in selfishness.

For those who do not resonate to what we share, we must be okay with this. Let go, but keep yourself anchored to the LIGHT.

Embracing Thoughts

Embracing Thoughts

By Lao Tsu

Channel: Lee Degani

Posted on April 16, 2025

Greetings, I am Lao Tsu, master of balance and I come because of the question that has been asked – how does one send away negative thinking?

And so I ask you, why do you send it away? Why do you not embrace it? For it has come to teach, it has come to show an aspect of you that is ready to be healed, that is ready to be transformed.

I ask you to come sit with me in the middle of the infinity loop, for this is the place of the quiet, this is the place of the silence, this is the place where you may find yourself. And as you sit with me, let us notice those thoughts that seem to take a hold of you, that cause anxiety, that cause stress that cause those familiar feelings running through your body.

Let us just sit here and let us watch them and let us see them for what they are, for who they are. For they are just bringing your attention to what is being called out for healing and which part of thee is calling out for help.

When you become aware, and you observe and you say, well, I know Lao Tsu, that I no longer want to have these thoughts, but I don’t know how to stop them, then you are already taking the first step.

And I do not say stop them, I say let them go for they too are on a journey. They too are ready to be transformed.

And how can we do that, beloved? Let them come into your heart into the infinity loop as you sit and as they go through and out your body. Let them go on each side of the infinity loop and in doing so they will be washed, they will be purified, they will come back into balance, and they will remember who they are.

You have the question of well, how can thoughts have this consciousness? And they do beloved, they have their consciousness in a way that you don’t completely understand in your human mind.

But think of a thought as having a certain energy within it and without identifying what you believe that energy to be, whether it would be what you would think of as a higher vibrational energy or a lower or a negative or a positive, it does not matter. It radiates out what it is.

And those that radiate out “I am not pretty, I never do things right, I always see what another does in comparing it to what I do,” they become broadcasters and they broadcast that right back to you and that becomes part of your understanding of who you are.

But it is really not a true understanding for the thoughts are really saying help me, help me see myself in a better light. Help me eat what will help my physical body, help me see myself as beautiful.

And when you listen and begin to say to the thoughts, as you would to a young child, you are beautiful, you are here to radiate Light, you are here to Love those thoughts, they look around and a new way of being comes upon them.

And then when you find that which pleases you, that brings you joy such as an activity or a memory or a loved one and you focus on that feeling, those thoughts will then begin to understand that there is a whole new world and they are ready to change.

And those thoughts are really you, aren’t they?

So let us take the first step to find Peace as you sit with me and you watch the thoughts flow in and flow out.

Farewell with Love.

Gift, Part 2

Gift, Part 2

The Great Quantum Transition

By Lev

Posted on December 30, 2024

For those who don’t give up, work on selves, and are up to speed… On the eve of Christmas, we received a wonderful gift: Co-Creators activate all levels of our consciousness, as well as dormant or previously blocked DNA strands. How do we sense it?

1. Sleep disturbances, sudden awakenings in the middle of the night, insomnia. Give up the manic desire for enough sleep. The more we try to do this, the more exhausted we’ll feel. Use moments of insomnia for meditation. If it becomes really hard, ask own “Higher Self” for a break and deep, healing sleep.

2. Anxiety and feeling of foreboding.

3. Heat in the feet.

4. Tiredness and fatigue in the morning and throughout the day.

5. Activities in the crown chakra area: buzzing, ringing, vibrations, pressure, tingling… Don’t worry, we are simply opening selves up to high freqs’ energies.

6. Feelings that something is crawling up and down our skull and spine. No need to worry, this iss elevated vibes’ touches.

7. Unexplained sudden bouts of depression. Our heart chakra is being cleansed.

8. Unreasonable nervous breakdowns or a surge of happiness are also a cleaning up of the heart chakra, which activates and forces us to cut off all negative relationships and remove from our lives everything that does not match our rising vibrations.

9. Constant occurrences of events that upset us or the appearance of people who cause us irritation, or situations and relationships that drag us down. Accept and work them through with gratitude, and let them go forever.

10. Weight loss or gain. That way, all our fears are coming to the surface and we need to get rid of them, but unconsciously, we try to fight them by attacking food. Or, vice versa, lose interest in food and it becomes unpleasant for us. The advice is simple – fill the food with love every time we eat. Consciously say that this food will serve our Spiritual growth and not just satisfy hunger. Listen to self and our body will tell what food is right for us.

11. The general attitude towards food is changing a lot. Sometimes, there is a feeling that we don’t need coarse physical stuff to maintain our bodies. There is only one piece of advice: listen to self, not “well-meaning” people or doctors.

12. Loss of sharpness and blurred vision.

13. We see small, shining particles in the air and the aura around plants and animals. Some things look transparent. We often see rainbows in the sky and in unexpected places.

14. When we close our eyes, we don’t see darkness but light.

15. Also, when our eyes are closed, we see geometric shapes, colors and beautiful pictures.

16. The colors of the world around us are becoming more vibrant and saturated.

17. Objects that were previously invisible begin to take shape and become visible. This is the feature of another dimension, the veil between densities becomes thinner, helping our observation.

18. In the twilight, with our peripheral vision, we notice white silhouettes – these are our Guides. Don’t be alarmed.

19. Increased or decreased hearing. Constant tinnitus, clicks, ringing, squeaks, buzzes, the sound of falling water. Sometimes we have difficulty understanding what others say, as if we had forgotten our native language. We hear strange voices in our dreams. Don’t fear, listen consciously to everything we hear.

20. Taste enhancement. Now we are keenly aware of harmful food additives in our products, and this is very unpleasant. Some meals taste incredibly delicious.

21. Scent gets stronger. At times, we even smell flowers that are not near us.

22. Skin rashes, allergies. New energy squeezes out toxins from our bodies, which come out through pores. These are also suppressed emotions that we need to work through and release.

23. Moments of hyperactivity, when we want to jump out of bed and rush somewhere or to do something immediately.

24. Apathy and fatigue are usually caused by deep transformations taking place within us. Don’t lose heart, calmly regain own strength and accept changes with gratitude.

25. Difficulty in focusing during meditation or prayer, they become shorter. This means our contact with the Source became more complete, so we can now commune with One on a daily basis, not just through Spiritual practices.

26. Brief and powerful bursts of energy flowing from head to toe like a shock. Sometimes they cause discomfort or intense chills. Don’t be afraid: this is how high frequency energy flows into us, and we should welcome it with gratitude.

27. Headaches, neck and back pain, as well as flu and cold symptoms.

28. Digestive issues.

29. Muscle cramps and spasms.

30. Rapid heartbeat, chest discomfort.

31. Changes in libido.

32. Tingling or pain in extremities.

33. Unintentional muscle contractions.

34. Appearance changes. We started looking younger. This indicates an increase in our vibrations.

35. Vivid dreams. It feels like these messages are meant for us. We have to remember them as they are sent us to learn.

36. Desire for solitude, loss of interest in social activities and entertainment.

37. Wants to break free and burn all bridges, or get rid of old things we once liked so much – clothes, furniture and anything else – and even set them all on fire. It’s how we get rid of everything that holds us back internally.

38. We become increasingly annoyed by “empty” conversations and hollow communication on socials, and an urgent wish to delete our accounts from all sites. This is how our Higher Self telling us to focus on selves and the changes taking place.

39. Wonderful images and creative ideas come to us. Write them down. The Higher Self reveals our purpose and how we can help heal the planet.

40. The feeling that time is speeding up, increased concentration on the present.

41. Constant feeling that something big is about to occur. Calm down, and remember that it will only happen when we’re ready. Impatience is a sign of distrust in our Higher Self.

42. The feeling that we are not the same as we were before, that our lives have changed completely. We have become more open and honest with ourselves and others. We say “no” freely to what we don’t like and “yes” to what we really desire. There is nothing to hide.

43. We feel a close connection with Earth and Nature, and easier stand the change of seasons and weather.

44. Computers, radios, phones, household appliances and machines may break down in our presence, but that’s okay.

45. Everything is going well in our lives. Everyday we see little miracles. That’s a sign we’re on the right track. Conversely, when we stray from it, things get difficult. But that’s also a sign.

46. An irresistible urge to find our half. Now, more than ever we need Soul and Spiritual support from someone we love, who fully understands us.

47. Accelerated hair and nail growth.

48. Dizziness, falls, bruises and fractures. This means we are not earthed. We need to work out some event or life situation, get rid of anything superfluous. Be grounded by standing and walking barefoot on the soil, be in Nature and take baths more often. Stay in the present moment, carefully monitoring emerging emotions, listening to self.

49. Never passing desire to get home, a feeling that nobody around understands us. Don’t worry. It’s normal in these circumstances. We’re not alone, and there are millions of people that feel the same. Listen to own body and Soul, and they’ll suggest a solution. This is how new strands of DNA are activated. Take it consciously and kindly. We become who we truly are. It’s a miracle to come home. And in order not to get lost again, remember what our ego and Soul are.

The ego is a self-created version that focuses on the past and future, fearing, distrusting and doubting. It serves only itself, concentrating on the outer world and always feeling dissatisfied, perceiving life as a competition for prizes, with an eternal feeling of lack, dreaming of wisdom, sensing its own mortality and separation. The ego is me.

The Soul is an authentic self, free from conditioning and devoid of labels, focusing on here and now, based on love, serving others, concentrating inward, accepting and forgiving, striving for the Source, taking life as a gift, enjoying the journey, feeling inner wealth and wisdom, knowing that it is immortal and aware of its own unity. The Soul is us.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!
